So less than 24 hours ago, it was reported on TV, radio, and social media that a Muslim radical had taken a bunch of people hostage in a cafe in Sydney. I wasn't home, nor was I listening to the radio when this happened, so it was about 2 hours before I found out.

My first reaction was, not here at home, my 2nd was he was right, referring to one of my sons Iraqi friends who said his dad told him they are bringing the war to Australia. And my 3rd was oh no. All the Muslims of this country are not going to be able to live their lives as they were the day before yesterday. And I was right. Already female Muslims across this country in hijabs are being targeted, and all because of a single man they probably never met. It's harder to tell a Muslim male than a female, and she is already singled out, this event has made it so much worse for them.

As a society we need to show tolerance to those who chose to be different from the "normal" As time goes on we are. You can see it, but then an event like this happens, and it seems like we take a gigantic step backwards.

Although I don't understand Muslims decisions to be bound by the rules of their religion, I know I have to show tolerance, and try to understand, so much for the sake of my children. I won't say I am prejudice, but I can't allow the prejudices I may have ever be shown to my children.

One thing that has come out of his situation, is the togetherness of social media. #illridewithyou this hash tag has gone viral with Australians from all walks of life have offered to meet up with girls in religious clothing, and ride with them on public transport so they can arrive at thier destination safely.

This morning 17 hours after it began, comes the end of the siege, the Muslim radical has been taken down. But there was tragedy, 2 innocent hostages have lost their lives, R.I.P. Sir and R.I.P Madam, and others have been injured, get well quickly.

We can't let this change us, we need to continue with our lives as we were. But we also need to be vigilant. If you see something out of the ordinary, please tell the national security service, or the police. Let's keep this country safe, for our children, and our children's children.
